Welcome to my second post. This is not actually about claustrophobia, even though if I didn't have a window to the parking lot, my "corner cubicle," would be similar to a white washed room in a mental institution. On a different note, associations in business and marketing can be a company's bread and butter. When people think of a cubicle, a typical person usually will come up with bad associations such as, mindless work, a prison, a mental institution, etc. This example would be my personal schema for that particular idea of a cubicle. Companies need to be thinking about what they want the first thing that comes to people's heads when they think of their product or company image.
What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Coca-Cola: refreshing, soda, summer time, polar bears wearing sunglasses. The Coca-Cola Company has spent millions making sure that you have positive associations that will lead to you purchasing a soda or even better, not purchasing their competitors brands. It is a lot about shaping peoples perspectives and mindsets, which is not at all easy. Here at Windward we are working on making sure words like business tools, easy, powerful, user friendly, and works with Microsoft Office come to mind in order for people to make a mental connection, which can possibly make our product easier to remember, repeat and spread in order to get the word out about our product. The mind is a beautiful thing and taking advantage of how the mind works can have huge implications for businesses. In addition, it can create all sorts of competitive advantages for entrepreneurs trying to come up with the next big thing.
